Conservation Ol Tome is strategically sited on Elerai to ensure the continued sanctity of a large area of African wilderness. Amboseli has long been considered one of Kenya's premier tourist destinations and has suffered accordingly. Successful wildlife conservation policies implemented by the Kenya Wildlife Services have, paradoxically, also placed a strain on the environment. With numbers of game set to rise even further it has become more important to provide them with, or rather, to maintain their ancient migratory routes away from the park and onto the lush lower slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro. Without such a safety valve the park's wildlife will be constrained within the park boundaries year round, without giving the land any chance to recover and rejuvenate. The combined areas of Elerai and Olgolului sit astride the Kitenden corridor, the main access route to and from Kilimanjaro for the game. A significant proportion of your guest fee is dedicated to the preservation of this threatened dispersal area. This finance enables the Massai with whom we work to dedicate their ancestral lands to conservation.
