James
Haigh
Born
and raised in central London, James arrived in East Africa 1992 in order
to teach at Kenya's premiere public school. Taking charge of the Outdoor
Education scheme, contacts in the Kenya Wildlife Service allowed James
to create a programme that brought Kenyan students into close proximity
with the remote parts of Africa. More recently James has been Regional
Manager for Africa Venture Ltd., taking responsibility for the administration
of the business whilst also creating exciting educational and conservation
based programs which he designed to encourage the youth of Kenya and Great
Britain to interact.
A Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, James has spent much of his
free time engaged in the struggle for the preservation of environment
and wildlife of East Africa. Time spent involved in the complicated translocation
of the critically endangered Hirola Antelope and a survey of Grevey's
Zebra, both conducted in the hostile Northern Frontier District of Kenya
gave James a marvelous opportunity to explore these seldom visited and
immensely rewarding corners of the continent.
Partnering Alex in both the Walker and Haigh Safaris business and the
Ol Tome camp, James has specialized in the creation of walking opportunities
on Mount Kilimanjaro and in adding activities such as land and kite surfing
to the AWS portfolio.
