Professional Photographic Safari
BINOCULARS
Your safari experience will benefit from a pair of binoculars, 8x32
or larger 10 x 40 format are great. These are really invaluable in the northern serengeti where off roading is not permitted and you will sometimes be watching game from a long way away. Its a
very special experience to be able to watch an animal closer and watch
its behavior.
CAMERA ADVICE FROM MIKE HACKER
This
is always a personal thing,You will have
thousands of beautiful and fantastic photographic moments during your
stay so bring the best equipment you can.
A 12 mega pixel SLR camera, with a good wide angle lens
for you landscape and vistas. Anything between 17 to 28 mm's will be
good. Then you will benefit from a zoom lens can cover your medium
range something like a 75 to 200 mm zoom is great. Some photographers
also use a telephoto lens in the 300-400mm range for getting close ups
of the Game. If you are going to buy a lens especially for your safari
we recommend Calumet Photographic. They will give you good advice.
Other
items for your camera bag are plastic re-sealable bags to keep you
equipment in protecting them from dust and rain. A bean bag (empty for
your flights we can fill them in camp), these are great for leaning the
camera on to the car as a tripod as cuts out camera shake. Also bring
lots of memory cards, 4 or 8 Gig size are good. Maybe extra storage
utility so that you can back up your photos and empty your cards for
more photos.
Digital cameras are notorious for running down
batteries and we therefore strongly recommend at least 2 spare
rechargeable batteries, your battery charger and an adaptor kit to fit
our three pin UK sockets. The camps have Solar recharging facilities
and batteries can also be charged in the
safari vehicle if you have a 12v adaptor.
